Proof, I do know where the kitchen is, loll!!! My DH does most, if not all of the cooking but I thought I would make some scones. Easy I thought, I can do this. Mix SR flour with icing sugar, make a well, pour cream in the middle then make a dough, roll out, cut out scones then place in oven. Wrong.....I made rock cakes instead. We still ate 'em.
I couldn't find the scone cutter, so I used a measuring cup instead
this is how they should look, (Lorraine's scones)
I don't know what I did wrong - must have been the oven.
Mine were so bad I forgot (embarrassed) to take a photo.

LOL, reminds me of the anzac biscuits I had to make at school for my cookery exam in grade 7. Teacher couldn't understand why they hadn't gone flat - Mum took one look and said you ddin't put in the sugar - of course, I did...NOT! I remembered finding it on the bench and thinking that i had got out two lots instead of one, I emptied it back into the sugar bin!
Hhave never had a failure with them since thank heavens!
You must of been to heavy handed with your scones. Maybe you need to leave it up to the man about the house LOL...
oh bugger.......mine don't have icing sugar in them........a little bicarb and a pinch of salt...........did you use the right flour???
One day I was in a real rush and made them with plain flour.........lucky I realised this with enough time to throw them out of the oven and start again.........
Does this mean we're having rock cakes for morning tea next Tuesday??
Ahhhh making scones. I too can make rock cakes out of them. At least you had a go. I nearly always have success now by using lemonade and cream and SR flour of course and just a pinch of salt.
Mmmmm Tereasa.... kitchen.... cooking..... those 3 words don't seem to go together lol.
Helen
Yes..definitely the ovens fault...Banjo's make really good scones!!Cathyx
LOL!! You are SO funny Tereasa! I had never heard of putting icing sugar in - thats weird! And the measuring cup roflao! I actually use a glass....
Here is my easy peasy recipe:
4C SR Flour
375ml can of Lemonade
1c Thickend Cream
Mix together, you may need a little more flour if it is too sticky. Kneed onto floured surface, cut with cutter or glass and place on baking tray - close together. Glaze with milk and place into approx 200deg oven for approx 15 mins..... Easy!

Of course it was the oven ! I blame mine often !
My scones are always rock cakes too.
